• Introduction •
Nepal is a land-locked country bounded by People Republic of China and India . Only Hindu Kingdom has the Himalayan region altitude between 4877 amd 8848 meters with snow and 14 highest peaks in the world. It is located between 80 degree East Latitude and 26 to 30 degree North Longitude. Nepal has very diversified climate and topographical conditions comprising of the highest peak of the world and down to 60 meters at Jhapa the far east part of Nepal.

History

Around 1863, colonel Gajraj Singh Thapa , son in law of the famous Rana Prime Minister , Jung Bhadur Rana , was on the tour of Darjeeling. He was impressed by the sight of the plantation and the tasty drink he was offered everywhere he went. he was determined to grow tea in his own Ilam, where Mr. Thapa was was the Governal General. His father in law had awarded him the whole district in the form of Birta. Teh colonel set up two plantations the Ilam and the Soktim tea estates, forty-two hectre each and so began Nepal's tea industry. the tea industry in Nepal was largely under the government domain until early nineties. In 1982 , the government declared the five eastern districts of Nepal i.e. Jhapa Ilam, Panchthar , Terathum and Dahnkuta a "Tea - Zone"(except Jhapa all are situated in hill).After the liberization of the economy the private sector began to invest the tea industry.
Over the years, Nepal's tea industry has grown steadily. Today, tea gardens cover more than twelve thousand hectare. Nepal's aromatic tea is becomming more and more popular around the world, and each year hundreds of tones are exported to United States of America, Japan, Canada, Hong-Kong, Germany, U.K., and other European Countries.

• Orthodox Tea •
Orthodox tea is prepared by adopting the "Rolling Process" at the ttme of manufacturing .The appearance of the product is the wisy leaf, which has not been crushed by the machine. This is the oldest and best machine for tea processing. In our country, Tea cultivation above 1000 meters altitude has been cateorised as the orthodox tea producing range. The eastern part of the hill sides are major high grown tea producing and more small farmers are involved. Total area under Orthodox Tea is five thousand hacteres. It has very high potential for orthodox tea production in our country.

Tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world and the volume of the consumers are increasing day by day. It occupies a major share in the international commodity market. The market of the orthodox tea is gradually growing due to the increasing interest and inclination of tea conscious mass.
Regarding the quality of Orthodox Tea produced from Nepal is almost top in the global market. The fact
has been proved from renowned bussiness organizations of the world . The ecological situation of the country is very suitable to expand the production of the Orthodox Tea in the hilly region and make it one of the perenials export item. Demand For hill Orthodox Tea has always been high in the overseas market. it is required to grow in the hilly area under natural condition using organic matter to sell in teh market as the organic tea. Some tea industries are producing the organic Orthodox Tea also and the product has been tasted and recommended as organic from the reputed agency like NAASA. About Eighty percent of the production of the orthodox tea is being exported to other countries like Japan, Germany , United Kingdom, Hong Kong and U.S.A. Rest of the twenty percent tea is consumed in the internal market like restaurants and star hotels.
